Job Shadowing a Kamien, Polònia

Viatjar sempre afavoreix l’aprenentatge.

A job shadowing, in education, is a short-term opportunity where a teacher (or teachers) from one school has the opportunity to work alongside and gain experience of the role of another teacher and school, and gain an insight into that particular work area. This is a mobility included in our Erasmus+ KA101 programme “Opening doors”.

So as it is said, a job shadowing is a visit we did to a school to observe and analyse how they work and learn from them. To learn and learn again from those who know, as Kavafis wrote in his Ithaca poem.

What we expected with this experience was to enhance our work as teachers by analysing and observing the methodology they use in other countries. Other than methodology aspects, we also saw different school management models that will help us to improve ours in a future. The point is to spread all this new knowledge with our colleagues in order to involve them in the project. Implementing in our school everything we have learnt from the experience will be our goal.

Travel promotes learning and increases know-how. It is vital for teachers to share their experiences and thoughts specially if it happens abroad, it turns into a source of knowledge. New ways of teaching and learning. Ultimately, opening doors to new paradigms and new ways of seeing things.

It was a privilege to stay a week with the teachers and Headmaster from Zespól Plakówek Oswiatowych in Kamien, Poland. But specially we would like to thank Joanna Mach because she was the seed of this awesome job shadowing.

Which is the origin of the job shadowing project with Kamien, Poland?

An eTwinning project. The project was called “Read your way across Europe” and it was a plan to promote reading in our students. The eTwinning project was driven by the polish english teacher Joanna Mach. This collaboration was the germ that led to this job shadowing experience.
